  • MAF/CAI Question

wanting to mod my intake, was wondering if the MAF has to stay horizontal or can it be moved vertical. Thanks for any info.

actually if you have a festiva its a VAF (Vane Air Flow) and not an MAF, but yes it will still work, i had one on my first festiva mounted in a custom cai setup that had it pointing straight down toward the bumper and it still worked fine.
1992 Festiva... BP-T, Escort G5MR, no crossmember, aspire brakes, Megasquirt, Toyota COP's, coilovers and 6 puck SPEC clutch!

T3/T4 Turbo Power! G5MR and BP since '04!

thank you mister idealsociety for putting that out there...too much frustration results all too often from dealing with that outdated device (VAF) not to refer to it by its proper name. there is no sense tarnishing the reverential MAF name if we have no need to (kills me to this day...knowing i traded in my OBDII and MAF...for an extra two hundred horsepower and that silly old VAF)
feels like the sky is gonna fall down and crush me

I have a 323 VAF (?) on my B6 swap and I seem to have had problems with power and driveability when it gets too canted in the bay (leaning sideways). When I straighten it up horizontally it runs fine. Could be something else, I suppose.

I can't recall whether I used my Festiva VAF or one from the 323. I just know I'm using the long ass 323 air hose and related connections. I've been too lazy to install my shorter MX-3 hose and CAI yet!

And yes, I need to tack all that down. Right now it just sorta sits there, and if it drops too far it interferes with my ATX shifter lever on top of the tranny. I am so halfass. Or quarter ass... ops: Now if I had a heated, carpeted five car garage and a nice hot mechanic babe to help me out, all three of my cars would be perfect right now!

          She'd do:
