  • Exhaust: doing the research.

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have pics of the undersides of your cars, preferably on a hoist or something like that. I won't be able to get under mine for a while, but I've got some planning to do.

I'm planning the exhaust system, and it's routing, so whatever pics you've got will help.

Also, anyone happen to have any soundclips of Festivas using different setups?

My plan right now is to park a small muffler, maybe a glasspack, where the cat sits now, run back from there to a 90 degree bend, dumping out immediately in front of the right rear wheel.

    Any thoughts?

I am designing an exhaust for my car. I don't have any pics of the underside, but I have the exhaust from the cat back sitting on the ground if that would help. From the cat it's a straight shot back to the fuel tank, bend left, a foot or so, bend right and up over the axle, down a little and into the muffler.

I don't like my car smelling like the 1960s so I am keeping the cat, but a higher flow model. Cherrybomb for a resonator and oval can for a muffler. That should end up being pretty close to stock, maybe a bit quieter, without restricting the flow too much. Also, 2" to the cat, 1.75" after. Assuming all goes well I should have that installed in a week or two and I will post video/audio.

Using just a glasspack is going to be very loud and will drone/fart. I can't stand how that sounds, but to each his own.

I'm going to see if I can weasel into the garage tonight to mess with the car a bit. While I'm there I'll try to see what's what underneath. Maybe I should get a Porsche muffler from work....nope, they're huuuuge.

I ran mine exactly like that in the beggining...but i used a turbo cherry bomb muffler from autozone for 20 bucks. I switched to a resonator only dumping it straight down towards the pavement.....now i think i am going to run it out the back resonator with another new cherry bomb muffler. The glasspack/resonators only are just to loud, take my advice.

And remember this piece of advice for turbo cars from the book maximum boost. "the best exhaust on a turbo car is no exhaust." lol I love that book.

if you arent running a turbo youre going to not want to make the system too large or un-restrictive. LArger diameter costs more and is heavier too. Backpressure creates some scavenging to build lower rpm torque. If your car is a highway runner you probably wouldn't notice much power or mpg-wise but i drive in stopsign hell so i need to keep the TQ i have.
