  • my idea for a "super intercooler"

im just going to briefly summerize my idea...

make a sheet metal(or any metal i guess) bod and weld it over top of your intercooler, then run hoses from your a/c unit to the box to super cool the air that is in the intercooler.
There is no replacement for displacement, except for the turbo in my basement.

Parasitic losses from the AC drive system and weight would negate any possible gains.

This was tried back in the 80's on turbo Buicks. It never caught on which tells me that it doesn't work too well.

There has been a few cars ppl have done this on and it worked great, but alot of work. 2 of which were newer evo's. But for the power we are making a good front mount is your best bet.

There is another application that high performance shops are trialling here in Aus.
I think it's oxygen injection? There is a bottle (like n2o) that feeds into the plumbing
just before the throtle opening. I have only just seen it- so??

Or you can go the poor mans way and take your washer nozzle...go down to Home Depot/Lowes and buy a couple of "mister" nozzles and place them around the intercooler with 1/8" washer line.

Yeah like the STi & evo 8's intercooler sprayer. Uses the the windsheild wiper sprayer system.

to the original poster: your idea is pretty common. look up "water to air intercoolers" online, it's sort of what you're talking about. instead of the intake air being cooled by ambient air, it's cooled by water or coolant, which is circulated around the intercooler and back into a second radiator (I believe an A/C condensor could be used for it also). The advantage is that the intercooler is smaller, it can be placed anywhere (less piping), flows as well or better than most air to air intercoolers, and cools as much at idle as it does at 100mph. Ever wonder why the crazy import drag cars don't have huuuge intercoolers? That's why.

That's what I say! I was thinking of hooking up my paintball C02 bottle to a sprayer in front of the intercooler. That stuff is COLD when it comes in contact with the air.
