^^^Have you checked out the FML for the last 3 months? Virtually no posts.. Why? Because the mods won't allow discussions like this.. Consequently, the FML is dying a slow boring death..

LMFAO this is acctually pretty damn funny. however correct me If I am wrong it might not be a twist of a magic screw, but It would b possible to change a CVT tranny to shift differently without modding the ratio's. A cvt tranny from my understanding is like a big centrifical clutch so it might b possible with that. I don't know much about them only got to see one. That was when I was working for Luk clutches. They manufacture things for all the major companys even though the clutches in our cars are DK if i am not mistaken. How ever one thing is still the same. yep crypto is an ass! LOL

Constantly Variable Trannies are not usually seen on Cars, I have seen them at AutoX's in F1 looking go-karts and they are obnoxiously loud. They don't have gears to shift however.. As you go faster to redline as soon as you reach redline the car just keeps accelerating varying the final drive to keep going faster.. Cool idea but I doubt it would work with the weight of a car plus then your engine is constantly as redline another huge drawback. -Kyle

thats why you would get a small turbine engine and use that.

do you know the mfg. who makes those transmissions?

uhhhh, what about the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego? They have a CVT, and run very well. I'm driving one currently. Engine will peak about 6200 from a standing start, accelerate like crazy, and start to reduce rpms about 35-40 mph, while still accelerating. No shifting, smooth, quiet, 28-30 mpg in a heavy-ass car. The idea is not to keep the engine at redline, but to keep the engine at peak torque. Those little engines don't make torque at low rpms. The Duratec 30 v6 makes it torque from 2k-6k rpm. When the engine is at peak torque, the load is the lowest, and permits the lowest possible fuel flow for those conditions. That's the primary idea behind CVTs.

yes and no. Both fwd and awd are available with the 6 speed auto (Aisin-Warner), but some markets are only getting the CVT (ZF / Ford) as awd.

oooh ok. i think that 500 is gonna be a homerun for ford, i hope the new mustang gt enjoys lots of sucess too, despite the marketing problems.

marketing problems? I wasn't aware there were any? the biggest problem we have with the Mustang, is that we can't build enough GTs to meet demand. AAI added a shift, and they scaled back v6 production, and Romeo Engine added capacity for the 4.6 3v. The Five Hundred is a bit of a dull car, but it has what the consumers are asking for, interior room, quiet operation, clear vision, sufficient power and excellent stability. A very good family car..... finally.
