i know they were selling them recently. apparently a new flywheel machined to about 11#. i sent a used one to them to them years ago and this is what they did to it to get it down to 11.5# from about 18 i think. i know there was a little controversy regarding this awhile back and i am just answering your question , not wishing to ignite another debate.

Is it worth it, or should money be spent elsewhere?

7 pounds rotational mass is equal to 140lbs of dead weight. You'll see maybe 5hp from it.

It isn't adding HP it is unleashing or freeing up a loss of HP... I've already said why it is not a good idea in another thread and I'll end with that. -Kyle

I'm planning on a moderately lightened flywheel for Speedstiva, for use with the B6 swap. If the stocker flywheel weighs 18# then I'd want maybe 3 to 5 pounds off it. If it "frees up" about 2 or 3 hp I'd be happy, but I want it to be driveable in the real world.

                Any comments?

Because its a figure 1lb rotation weight is about equal to 20 pound dead weight

I'd trust a lightened stell flywheel over a ebay aluminum knock-off any day.

umm i've been running a 10# stock flywheel for months without any problems. it does take away some driveability though. i started out with a 16.25# stock flywheel w/ over 200k on it and had it resurfaced, lightened and balanced. it came back 6.25# lighter and cost me $300 for the service.

I have had mine lightened and balanced. Seems ok?

I should think that the longevity of a lightened flywheel would depend a lot on the quality of work done, how it was done, and any flaws in the original wheel itself.

I'll still probably get mine lightened, but keep it to three or four pounds off.
