  • K&N Filter

Anyone who's swapped the B6 or bigger engine and who's running a cone filter... What model did you get?

I'm looking to get a K&N because they're rated really well... But I've been to 4 autoparts stores and none had one that fit... The opened was too small on the one (perfect size other than that) and all the others were too long.

Just looking for a part number to order.

    Thanks.

I used the part # RU-3700. Any parts store can get it. You just need an adapter tot he VAF that accepts a 3" filter.

Don't you have a problem with those things getting wet in the rain?

rated? Rated really well for what? As a paper weight?

FWIW, I now use AMSOIL's new EAA line of air filters. Not the one that is in the test (those have been discontinued and having seen plenty of used oil analysis results on some applications they filtered very well, and others....not so well). The EAA line is either the best thing to happen to filters since sliced bread or really really good marketing.

packrat, sadly, the old foam filter ones were discontinued. The one for the festiva/aspire airbox was discontinued before the rest of them, that's why we had such a great deal on those.

Luckily, due to my own used oil analysis results I have seen that it filters well in a festiva/aspire. From some of the other results I've seen, they didn't do so hot. Like I said, it was hit or miss on whether the old foam line worked.

The new ones, I've seen a few. They all looked good. I haven't seen any independent testing done (like the link I posted) so I have no way to confirm how well they work. I'm using them. I figured, they're paper (more or less) and therefore filter well. They're cleanable, and therefore worth the money.

I can't definitively say they are the best filter in the world, but I can say they should come close.

              AMSOIL's smallest filter is:

              EaAU3050

              RU-3570

              Round Tapered

              Center

              6.000 Base
              OD (in)

              3.000 Flange
              ID (in)

              5.000 Media
              Height (in)

              5.0 Top
              OD (in)

              So it's kind of big.

From what I've heard K&N air filters are good for less flow restriction and reusability but maybe not for filtering capacity, they allow bigger chunks of debris through and take longer to become clogged (makes sense). The way I see it most people get rid of their cars before the interior gets old, so if you're like that it's not a prob. But...forget it if your thinking about mufflers and air filters as performance enhancers your wasting your time and money for .5HP unless your on a race track

But it makes sense to have a cone filter in a swap Tuffguy, just like to rant

I need the cone filter because there's no air box on the swap (nor would I keep it if it were in there)... I need the muffler because this dual POS that's on the car now sounds horrible!

I'm not looking to grab any extra HP from the parts.

K&N do what they claim to do. Less restriction

You will find some of the cheaper brands, like here in australia we have "drift" brand. They are cheapies, flow isnt as good, but filtration is better
