89' auto distributor

i was looking at the festva motorsport site's project cars and the gtx project car had the distributor replaced with a automatic distributor because it had more timing then the stock one. what does this do for the car?

More timing advance = more horsepower....up to a point. You could accomplish the same result with a standard distributor by advancing the base timing.
