What kind of bulbs do the cluster lights use? I wanted to replace mine with some red ones or something but I don't feel like loosening my speedo cable just yet to get a look at them.

Are they fairly standard bulbs? or are they like the dome light which is a non-standard 31mm festoon bulb?

Edit: Alright, got the cluster off. Had to actually disconnect the speedo cable(it had been replaced, so it was short). Found out that for the bulbs that light up the whole cluster they're a 74 bulb, and the one single bulb that lights up the KM's on the car is I believe a 158/194b bulb

I've got 9 of the 158's, the 4 74's and the special 158 that's painted Green for the Brights

It needs to be removed if you are pulling the cluster anytime....either from behind the cluster or at the tranny.....they are all that short.

Its a pain but I've had mine in and out more than I should doing custom wiring . . . I'll take a picture next time I got it out . . . but if you lay down and reach up above your brake and gas petals go straight up the center you will feel a round plug about 2 inches in diameter, there will be a little tab on mine I have to push this tab up an pull towards the front of the car to remove the pulg (it is much easier to pull this plug first) then move towards the center of the cluster and you will feel the cable comming in, there will be a little tab somewhere on it you will have to push it and pull the cable towards the front of the car. Yours may come harder since it hasnt been on and off as much as mine. you can then either remove the second round plug like the first of you can remove the screws holding your cluster in and cock it to the left to remove the last plug your call. on reinstalling I install the first plug(left) then start the screews that hold the cluster, I install the spedo cable next baming sure that you get the little tab to lock in place (if not you will hear a loud pop driving down the road and you spedo will quit) to avoid this just make sure it locks on, then I install the second plug and reinstall the trim

Oops! I found a company that sells LED replacements for dashboard bulbs (see above). Any idea what will fit Festivas?

I've never been able to find an LED that lights up a cluster as well as an incandescent bulb does. I've tried domed, concaved, and frosted LEDs, but they're either not as bright, or the light is patchy. If you find some that work well, let us know. I'm sure it'd become something we'd all consider doing. I know I'd like something other than the pale green I've got going on now.

I buy the individually packaged LEDs, the ones with the wide band(no narrow), make sure they have the resistor built in to the wire right near the diode, then as a good rule it takes 2-4 Leds to emit the same sweep as a standard bulb. the beauty of the individuals is you can position them to where you need your light or reflect them off the side walls - buy a metalic chrome finishing paint or a mirror paint and spray the inside where your bulb reflects making sure not to get any on the lense surface, this helps with the glow effect.

One idea that would make this easier is to connect the cluster to a power source to test out your lighting so you don't have to reinstall it time and again to check things out.
