Hey my festy is flat black primer, buddies and i used 7 rattle cans to paint the whole car LOL looked good for about the first 3 months but in the sun it fades, and if its always parked in the same spot it only fades in the same area!! LOL I like it but this winter im gonna see about flat black with some sort of clear coat, i just dont like the glossy finish, everyones got that... time to be different! (and it hies some of the lil dents!)

          Good luck with the painting!!

P.S. id post a pic of my car when we were painting but i dont know how! lol

you can put a coat of clear over primer just not a gloss coat. a matte coat will give the same effect as primer but without the side affects.

That's what I was going to say... If you base coat/clearcoat the car with any color base and a matte/flat clearcoat, it will look like primer the color of the base coat. Clearcoat comes in 4 basic finishes (from shiniest to dullest): gloss, satin, matte, flat. Note: You cannot wax any of these clearcoats except the gloss. Any other clearcoat will be moderately shiny FOREVER after you wax it. Don't make the mistake of painting the car flat and then waxing it.

Gloss offers the longest paint life because it can be waxed. The others won't last as long, because you can't put anything over the clear to protect it.

They sell a hot rod black paint that looks like primer and its cheap. There is also Hot rod flatz paint that is also cheap on Ebay. I have a friend that painted his car Hot rod flatz green and it looks really good!
