My car was missing the beam support when I bought it , I did not know it was missing at first .

I now have a bumper with support .

It may save some weight , but I would not recommend it if it is a daily driver , you are asking for major damage if it ever takes a hit in the front

Yeah Pack, I was waiting for you to relay your experience!
I was afraid you were going to hit a big bug at 80MPH and total the car!

Now if you want weight savings remove all that heavy glass (windshield fore and aft as well as pass and driver side glass) and replace with Glad wrap!

When you get rid of the glass, just cut off the roof at the bottom of all the pillars. That way you significantly decrease not just the weight, but also the frontal area, which reduces your drag coefficient.

Then make a snap on tonneau cover with just a hole for your head and shoulders peaking up.

I'd wear a motorcycle helmet in that event.

Big bugs at 70mph can really sting!

        Karl

PS: Doing all of the above will also lower your COG, greatly improving handling as well. An appropriately shortened roll cage will increase stiffness lost when you cut off that pesky roof.

          One more thing:

Get rid of your aero headlights and install bigass round ones. Then you'll have...

          A BUGEYE FESTIVA!!

I have both of them removed on my festiva....if i remember right (which i can't right now becuase I'm forever cursed with after-effects of alcohol...but it didn't hinder typing one bit) 28-35 lb area. Givin' that edjumakated guesstur, I think I'mm well off saying that i AM rgihtTTT!!! BBBURRRPP!!

This is the easiest procedure to remove them....there are 14 i repeated 14 millameter bolts on the inside of your car. Revmove those and the whole assembly will come off easy. At that point your can undo about 40 of those pesky plastic phillips reainter srcew that we all love because they never come out. Usefull tip if you plan on never putting them back on is to throw the whole bumper assembly away. Besides I'm sure thats another 10 or so pounds.

And just remember that every 100 lbs you take off of dead weight of your car is supposed to be equal to gaining 10whp. And 10 whp is a .10 of a second in the quarter mile.

"i live my life at a quarter mile at a time, it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning!" After you say this qoute your suppose to raise up your arms like your a racer/mechanic GOD......and then the cops come and seize your car blah blah blah....you know the rest

I REALLY REALLY HATE THOSE STUPID STICKING PLASTIC BUMPER COVER RETAINER THINGIES!!

Ahh, I feel a little bit better now.

Bad. Festy's are small enough as it is, without removing what little protection is there.

Too many idiots driving today , makes for a real good chance for a front end collision , or a rear ender .

without that extra protection , it make for excessive damage .
look at David88's car with a deer and it had protection .

I removed my rear support to fit the ATH rear bumper. It's needed as the bumper support is too wide to make anything fit.

If it wasn't for installing the kit, I would've left it there... If you DD the car, don't do it.
