  • DON'T BUY THESE THINGS!

Since I had a few extra bucks in my pocket, and some time to surf eBay, I thought I'd take a chance on something. I bought these 7" round projector conversion headlamps. Shipping was fast, but the product is pure crap!!!

The H4 bulbs supplies (or any H4 for that matter) don't actually fit without hitting the projector lens. The beam pattern from them was about as focused as Brittney Spears, and the city lights won't even fit into a standard headlight bucket.

To top it off, one of the lenses cracked while being installed. No pressure on it...it just cracked. Maybe it was protesting being installed in a Festiva.

Anyway, they look kinda cool, but never, ever, ever buy these things!!! (and, they're not DOT approved)

They were your basic, cheap ass, Chinese mass-produced-in-a-sweatshop-piece-of-crap 55/60w H4 bulbs, that someone dipped in blue paint for that "HID look." I don't imagine these particular bulbs would have lasted any more than a few weeks before cooking themselves to death. The heat they put out was quite insane, and the light they put out was negligible compared to anything I've ever seen.

Yup, cheap bulbs suck. Pretty much anything that's not Sylvania/Osram or PIAA sucks really. They just plain make the best bulbs.

Now, if someone could find a way to do an LED headlamp bulb that actually cast light over a distance, and was affordable...I'd be on that like Oprah on a baked ham.

I think I'll order the Hella H4 conversions through work. I can get a discount on them, and they kick ass. Plus, it'll just come off my paycheque, so I never have to deal with the pain of letting go of actual money.

It was monkeyracing over there as well. I REALLY wanted to do the 200 six in my fox LTD, but couldn't get my local pals to support me on it. Their support is kind of vital, seeing as it's not my garage. Bastards!

The really sad thing is that my friend finally got tired of having my 200 hanging around in his garage, so I had to get rid of it. While tearing it down for scrap, I discovered that the bearings were all absolutely perfect, the cylinders still had crosshatching and no ridge, and the timing set was brand freakin' new.

Oh well, I'm sure it's on it's way to Korea by now to be made into a Hyundai.
