  • Bumper Paint?

Just wondering if a special automotive paint is needed for the bumpers on the festiva as compared to the metalwork. I'm wanting to get the bumpers and the wheels painted in the next week or so and I don't want them to start flaking.

BTW, the bumpers are the charcoal colored, textured plastic ones.

When you get them painted use an adhesion promoter on them. Lots of different companies make a variation of the product. I think there is even one in walmart automotive section in a spray can.

if you are taking them somewhere they should know to do this . . . if your doing it yourself make sure the bumper is spotless . . . Krylon makes a plastics paint that already has the adhision in it that is a no primer paint, if your gun spraying then you can do a very very mild scuff with something 2000 or higher and then prime and paint mixing some adhision in your primer will help.

I painted my car 4 years ago (with rattle cans!), and other than prepping the bumper properly, I used the regular paint that you can get at the auto parts store, and no special primer, just regular white primer. No special plastic primer or paint was used. It has held up great for years now, with no cracking and not much fading ( I used a clear coat too).
proper prep work is most important!

Yeah, that's why I painted it that way, and thanks for the compliment; I still get people occasionally who actually think it is a Mini!!
I figured I'd post a pic since no one here at FF.com has seen a pic yet.

As you can see, there are very faint lines on the hood from the narrow angle of the spray from the spray cans, but you can't really notice it most times since i hardly ever wash it! haha.

As i said, I prepped it correctly, and just used ordinary spray paint including a clear coat that was color-sanded and polished, and it has held up remarkably well for $90 of spray paint!

It kinda reminds me of those "Counterfiet Mini" commericals Mini had on TV.
