Oops, totally forgot about you guys wanting me to post this info. It's a little delayed, but here it is. Pictures are at the bottom of the post.
So, you want round headlights on your Festiva. It's not hard to do. Here's what you need.
1. Festiva backing plates. (those rectangular metal things on the back of your headlights. Unbolt your headlights, remove the glass part and the spring, and you've got it.
2. First gen. VW Rabbit round headlight buckets, complete. Everything from the bucket, to the headlight ring. (it says "Hella" on it!) These are held onto the car with 4 phillips head screws. If you can, get the headlight plugs while your there.
3. 6024 sealed beam headlights. They're round, 7" across, and cheap. If you can't figure out what to look for, ask for headlights for a 75 Chev pick up, or anything else that looks kinda like that. Better yet, just look at the headlights on the VW Rabbit you pulled the buckets from. Those are them.
4. A pair of plugs for the headlights. Scrounge them at the wreckers, buy them at the store. They're pretty much the same plugs used for H4 style bulbs. As also mentioned in item 2, see if you can get them from the donor car.
Ok, heres the deal. Take one of your Festiva backing plates in one hand, and your VW bucket in the other. Try to fit the two together, with the Festiva bit upright, and the VW bucket also upright. (the Hella logo should be at the top. It's stamped on the headlight retainer ring) They won't fit, right?
To fix this you want to cut away anything on the Festiva part that interferes with the VW part sitting flush on either side. What this requires is that you cut away the vertical surfaces at the top and bottom of the Festiva part, until the VW part slides in there nicely. Make sure you create access for the adjuster screws.
Glue, screw or (preferably) weld the two pieces together. If you've done this right, your 90% of the way home.
Hook up your new headlight plug to your headlight harness by lopping off the old plug and attaching it...properly. Do this properly. No butt connectors. No twisting the wires together, mashing chewing gun around them, and wrapping them with bandaids.
Solder/heatshrink. "Nuff said.
I don't remember off hand which wires are which on the Festiva harness, but you've got a repair manual, right. I don't have one here, so I'm hoping you do.
After all this, it's fairly self explanatory. PM with questions, if you have any.
Front shot of completed buckets.
Angle view, so you can better see how the VW mounts flush to the Festiva part.
Standard 3 wire headlight hookup. I hope.

This is a cool mod. 8) , thanks monkeyracing for posting it!
Anyone on here do this? .....any pics? ....and if you did, what did you do for the headlight covers.
I would like to do add this mod also. Though, I would prefer buying a basic kit first if available before having to source all the pieces and modifying them. I know Jim "monkeyracing" was going to offer a basic kit, but understandably says he has no more time to do so.
So, anybody else picking up the torch or have these pieces laying around?
Please let me know-greatly appreciated!!!!!'93 Festiva L 5spd.:
Aspire swap: brakes, swaybar, master cyl.
Aloha! ....renny
