  • Had a strange idea..

So, I was sitting in my car today, waiting for a call for an order. I had forgotten to bring my Zune, so had nothing to do but listen to the radio, and look around my interior.
Now, I have added Velcro to a few spots to hold things. I have a sylvania "dot it" ( a little battery powered LED light) on the ceiling, makes a handy flashlight, a couple pieces on the blanks behind the turn signal, and headlight stalk. I put pens and lighters there.
The ceiling is torn in a few spots from hauling big stuff over the years, the door panels as well. I was thinking that it might finally be time to do something to fix the old girl up a lil.
I am a miser, and my car is just another tool to me. I usually do not care what it looks like as long as it functions well. I do mods rarely, and only if it has a functional purpose, not caring what it does to the looks, soooo...
I thought to myself, it would be kind of cool to cover ALL the interior, dash, ceiling, door panels, in the loop part of industrial hook and loop (Velcro)!!!
Put small pieces of hook on all kinds of things, just stick em anywhere..

Get one of those short, squat, but fairly large go cups, put some hook on that, it would stay on the dash!
Pens, flashlights, my work clipboard, cellphone, mp3 case, whatever!

    Any thoughts on this?

Reminds me of the "grass car" or the "button mobile" or that restraunt covered in pennies.
But in the end if it makes you happy it is your car and you can do what you like with it.

At 3 am, i am just ending my day, then I start again about 730-8 am, I guess I will get plenty of sleep when I die

Actually, my schedule usually catches up with me about once a week, like today, and I sleep till like 2 in the afternoon

I was thinking that if I used the loop part, it would be similar to putting carpet everywhere, I would have to think about it for a while, mebbe just do the ceiling, ANYTHING uniform on it would look better than it does now ops:

if its functional for your needs do it. and tacky and nerdly are in the eyes of the beholder anyway, right. if we really cared what people thought, would we all be driving festiva's???

nonamekid, your comment sounds so paternal....lol at 3am you should be in bed, not on here posting.

If you can find just the loop part of the hook in large enough quantities, and perhaps not in black, i think that would be a neat idea! Maybe not the whole dash (just a pad along the flat areas or something?) but it would be different... make sure to post up if you decide to do it!

they use hook and loop stuff like that a lot in spacecraft to keep things from floating around... guess it would work the same in a festiva!

what's up with that back window? ... could it be that this car is "submersible"? no, that would be too cool. Back to the topic - if you can get a nice grey velcro that matches the factory dash then you may be on to something. LOL.

Oh My Freaking GAWD! what in the world is that?? has anyone shot the guy yet? LOL

Skeeter, I saw a bunch of it in black at wally world, but it would prolly cost about $200 ti do the ceiling.

Gray may match, but I am thinking black would be a cool accent, especially if I could figure a way to put in THIN strips of gray or silver along the factory seams of the door...

GenevaDirt, I knew I had seen someones sig on here that said that, but did not remember who had it, I got it from my father in law, he sleeps like 3 hours a day. That old man runs me into the ground very time I visit him in VA

I am just back from the hospital this am, had a scare, but thank god a scare only, with my wifey, now I must have 2 or 3 boilermakers to unwind, playing on the net helps, then back up at 8am to go fix the lift on a friends tow truck, blech, what is this sleep thing we talk about so much, anyway?

I was teasing about being up at 3:00 AM. I figured you had a weird work schedule, or you had some crazy inspiration in your sleep and you had to get it down in writing and get people's opinion at the same time. The sad thing about written language, it lacks emotion and feeling and therefore can be taken exactly the opposite as what you were thinking when you wrote it down. I think a velcro ceiling might come out nice. It would definitely be unique.
