  • Junk yard finds and some interior paint!

Headed up to the junk yard this morning to pick up the goodies. Full console with boot and knob, smoothie tail lights, antenna, rear speaker holders, gauge with tach, and ... I think its a rear cargo light, I don't know. I didn't ask for it but it was in the box.

Anyway, the previous owner of the junker was obviously a chain smoker. The parts were no longer gray, but gray with a nice thick layer of yucky smoke and sun fade! I scrubbed the hell out of them then hit them up with duplicolor black vinyl and carpet dye. I ended up grabbing 3 smoothie lights, 2 rights and 1 left. Of course the 1 left leaks slightly so I pumped flowable windshield silicone between the channels and am letting it dry. The other right I will probably put up for sale/trade shortly.

I was very happy with the way the paint adhered and layed. Here are the results along with some other pics!

    Console before

    Ebrake surround before

    Rear speaker panels before

STUPID DEAD GNAT!!! Stuck in my fricken gauge, how the hell do I get him out without cracking plastic, argh!

    Any Idea on this piece?

That last peice is the cargo light, you will need the latch for it to work right. Or you can ground the one side and it will work manually. If you carefully push the tabs on the plastic lens for the tach you can remove the lens.

i found that Dupli-Color bumper coating (FB109 Dark Charcoal spray) is an almost exact match for the darker grey interior pieces (console, dash, etc.). just the right gloss that makes it look factory new. don't know though how or if it will stand up to armor-all.

armor-all is the devil!!! never use it!!! it breaks down plastics and vinals when exposed to the sun.

I'm spraying all of my trim peices with Krylon Interior-Exterior Semi-Flat Black it goes on well in three coats and looks sharp, it goes on with out a primer very well. Make sure your parts are clean though it shows dirt ans blotches.
