Can you cut the door braings out of the doors and quarters since your caging it? You can cut out the whole inner door remove the impact beam and make the cage to where it so called dips into where the door glass would sit.

YES, I can cut the door up so that the cage sits "inside" part of the door, and probably will.

nice-ness I want to do that to my aspire but only when I am done with a swap. you can take a saw to the fenders and get universal flares and bolt them higher, which will allow for a flush look with a lower stance. cap the back with a slight roll bar. and under the cap, add some cross bar chasis support. not having the top allows for more flex. it is nice to seesome one as radical as I. though I would have taken the glass out and kept the posts. keep rocking on

Yep.... here is an E-Mod Miata...

But, it WILL actually have a tiny, roadster style frameless windshield... more on that later... (lexan)

Im hoping you are going to make your cage a little higher over your head than this. If this guy rolled it looks like his face would get ground off. LOL

Yeah, the rule book calls for a minimum of 2" over the helmet.. I think I will go for a little more than that... just in case.. I already rolled one... don't want to do that again without protection... LOL...



Today, I tore out MORE wiring... I took out the fuse box and EVERY SINGLE WIRE under the dash, except for the clutch safety switch.. I like that feature...

SO, I have one big white hot wire, the blue and black to the starter, and blue and yellow to the clutch safety switch, and the black and white to the coil... that's all that's left inside the car... LOL...


this afternoon, I will be stripping the REST of the wiring from under the hood.. Just need the coil to harness, coil to disty, hot to alternator, and the exciter to the alternator. Two wires for a manual fan switch.. and I am done tearing out the wiring....

I cut another total 15 pounds out of the car... over 375 pounds cut out... and it was ALREADY stripped.. I'd say there is close to 500 pounds of uneeded "stuff" on a stock Festy... LOL

I imagine there's a lot more "necessary" wires on an EFI festy? For instance you said the computer wasn't necessary, but on EFI it is... I don't know what the computer does on a carby car.

Right on... no EFI here..


I finally got it down to a BARE minimum of wiring... total weight of wiring stripped out is over 20 pounds... LOL..

I have ONE hot from the bat cable to the MAIN fusible link. From there.. one hot to the alternator, that splits and feeds the ignition switch..

One hot from the bat to the starter.


Then, coming back from the ignition switch there are two wires. One to the starter solenoid, and the other to the Coil hot side.

Coil to Disty


Other than that, I have one hot feeding a switch, from ignition, to fan.

Fan is grounded, that's just a short one..



I will have a tach wired back in when it's done... and an ammeter inline somewhere and that's it!!

No computer, No sensors, ONE wire to the alternator, it excites itself, no need for more.

It's SO simple now... I love it.

Pictures tomorrow... I forgot to take some. It's still a bit messy now... I won't clean up the wiring till I get the cage and a little dash board in for the gauges...

are you running without all the lights? cuz if theres no wiring going to those then you could save a little more weight by removing all of them.

yes but the entire front end was also removed so who knows what is going back on

Today, I stripped out the dash and heater. Windshield wipers, motor and linkage. Stock seat belts and all hardware. Front and rear bumpers ,and all lights, and associated wiring. Plus anything else that wasn't welded down!! LOL

I have a feeling that stuff won't be going back on.

No lights.. probably light covers to make it look like a Festy...

Tonight, I will try to get the seat as low as I can. I am still waiting for my tubing bender!!! I need it soon!

It will just have the ONE seat... but yes on cage, and YES on lowering the seat, and dropping the Festy even lower... cut fenders.. I wish I knew how to do flares.... it REALLY would be kick-butt dropped another 3-4 inches, with the wide Diamond racing wheels, covered with flares... drool

i read an article about the old hotroder dudes and they used baseball bats. they would put the bat between the fender and tire, then get three or four people in the car and slowly roll it back and forth until they got the desired flare. i think they called them "rolled fenders"
