How I did it. I mad this bracket out of clotheshanger, 1/8'' larger than the hole in the console. I found a shift boot at work that had a extra large open end

And I stuck that bracket right in the end

I used some mecanix wire to secure the bracket to the console with some self tapping screws. A little half-@#$#% but no perm mods to the console.
