  • Intermittent variable wiper install

I'm trying to install a WHITE intermittent variable wiper switch in my '89 L. The original was ORANGE. I ended up with these two extra connectors and the headlights don't work and the wipers work like before but no function in the intermittent mode. What do I do with these extra wires and how do I make this work. I hope someone can help so I can get this back together before I go to work tonight. Thanks.

the only extra wire you should have is from the cruise control

Here is a picture of the extra wire coming out of the headlight switch.

Hear is just a shot of the wires I have. Notice the cut red and green wires below to the top left connector? I don't know what that is for.

UPDATE: I think me and GenevaDirt got this figured out over the phone. It seems the switches from newer cars are wired differently than my carbed '89. Oh well. Thank you so much for the help GenevaDirt.

There are a couple wire that need to be connected since you are useing a newer switch. It is on the site somewhere, I just don't remember where. You may have to connect the red and green?

Look in Mazda 323, and 626's. Also check Tracers and some escorts. All you need is the module and arm to put into the festiva switch.

On the plug coming out of the headlight switch jump the two wires and your lights will work.
The plug coming from the wiper switch is for cruise control unless you have cruise you don't need it.

I am just getting the correct switch instead of doing any wiring. I don't think that would work anyway. When I had this switch connected the headlights stayed on all the time even in the off position. The bulbs got very hot and started smoking. I would say it is not compatible.

Maybe my comment came out wrong. I wasn't trying to be offensive. The problem I have is I have an older car and I don't have the connector with the 2 red wires that you are suposed to jump. I saw the thread where you guys were talking about that though. I think it was only in the newer cars I guess. I am sending this newer style switch back to GenevaDirt and he has another one to send me that we think will work with my older car.

They are interchangeable, just have to connect the wires on the plug.

The plug attatched to the headlight switch? I thought in the other thread it was saying to jump two red wires in the connector that the plug from the headlight switch connects to, which I don't have.
