  • Need help, with sunroof gasket!

    Greetings, all!

My '92 Festy came with what I believe is a factory sunroof 8) . Problem is, it is currently worn-out (probably from too many years in the Texas sun). It is leaking, and I would like advice on where I can find another gasket, for this thing. This sunroof is the removeable type (it even came with a cute cloth-lined carry bag, complete with a ford logo).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS: I put a pair of GR2's on the back, last week. It was fun, except the through hole on the driver's side got "wallered-out". No worries: just broke out the MIG, did the old "fill and grind" thing, and all went smooth after that. Great shocks! Really made a difference. Can't wait to replace the fronts.

    This forum is great!

    Cheers,

    SB

i dont know about the factory sunroof but here is what i did to mine. mine is a toyota sunroof so i didnt have any seals or O rings or whatever. it just sits in the hole i cut and screws secure by a plate in the inside. what i did to seal it was realy inexpensive tho. i installed it dry (no seal) then taped off the roof around the sunroof, and taped off the outer edge of the lip that holds the sunroof up. then i unscrewed the plate inside so i could lift up all the sides just slightly. i took a 99 cent tube of clear silicone and squirted a bunch under the lip making sure there was enough to squeeze out all over when i screwed it back togather. waited about 15 minutes and pulled the tape off both the roof and the sunroof lip at the same time. that took all the extra silicone off evenly and left a nice small bead around the roof. if you dont tape in advance than you will have a hard time getting all that silicone off when it dries. almost have to take a razor to it and nobody wants to do that to their paint! mine looks realy good considering i put it in myself with a jigsaw and a wood blade without taking the headliner down. i took a few pics before i redid my headliner...il try to find em

I attempted to repair my leaky sunroof several times and it still leaked.. so I finally just bit the bullet and installed a new 1 for 150.00.. allot cheaper than anger management therapy. Having to sit in a wet seat that makes your ass itch is really embarrassing and uncomfortable and will piss you off to no end..
