  • Heads up. 9-1/2LCD Divx Xvid player mod $68

Looks like a cheap alternative to a car PC for those wanting to play videos and mp3's off SD/MMC/MS/USB ! Especially if you already have a separate GPS unit.

It's 12V 1000mA so should go in easy with a cheap second hand 12v car adaptor/regulator! Nice for modding the dash. WIDESCREEN!

I bought one for my wife's festy. Would be nice to get two for the headrest in the back with headphones.

I would NEVER get the kids out of the back then..........

No, that is amazing how much LCDs have dropped in price. I remember when an LCD watch in the early 70s was hundreds of dollars. I suppose that in 10 years, CRTs will be only found in a museum
    Have owned 9 so far
White 89 L converted to LX "The Curmudgeon" Being a Curmudgeon right now.
Blue 89 L converted to LX "Shtinky" FMS crate engine, cam, flywheel, hail dents
Smurf Blue 90 LX "Smurffy" He Ran Away From Home!!!!!! Says Willie loves him more than I did!
Red 88 L converted to LX "Rasta, Mon" Now retired
Where did all these @#*&%$ Toyotas come from around here?

Hmm, that's similar to the one I mounted in my dash. I hooked it to my headunit, which outputs DVD's and such on it.

Yeah, I got a gamecube screen, a playstation one screen and a xbox LCD to hook up additional screens for trips with the kids. I figured to patch the audio out into the aux of the stereo. Then run the video out to the other screens that I used to use for DVD out.

This way I can store the movies on a USB stick instead of DVD's and carry much more in smaller space without worry of heat melting or scratching the disks. Rip them to xvid. The resolution isn't great, but it's a small screen. The frame rate is abysmal, but I can rip at 23.976/fps so it's fine for divx/xvid quality.

I was planning to put this screen on a hinge in the glove box with some velcro on the back to tack it to the top of the box, so I can open the glove box and swing it down.

        That way:
        1. When I have the back of the headrest LCD's off, the passenger can still enjoy a movie.
        2. I can fabricate a glove box lock to secure it.
        3. Less obvious to anyone looking in the car.
        4. More protected from sunlight.
        5. Easy to hide the wiring. I can patch off the radio power so it only gets powered when the ACC is hot.
