  • Interior vinyl

Ok, I was going to do my interior in vinyl, to match my soon to be paint obviously. So heres the problem, I went and got vinyl from jo-ann fabrics, thing and easy to form to the shapes of the interior. I started out by using a carpet glue that is typically used for speaker box carpet. It basically melted the vinyl, so I went to home depot and got some 3m glue that was for vinyl, of course, naturally to make my life difficult, did the same thing by basically melting it. So my question is, if anybody has used a thin vinyl on their interior, what did you use to adhere it and did it actually last.

    thanks

hmm...thats an odd problem. your glue solvents are just too hot. general purpose interior spray adhesive (3m headliner) should do the trick, just be sure you follow the directions perfectly, ie...spray both surfaces, let them get tacky, spray them both again and let it get tackier before you put em together. then pray. i dunno how they get it to stick so well at the factories, but it's always been hit or miss with me.

          Krylon Fusion paint

I just painted one side of the rear plastic parts using Krylon Fusion spray paint. It has a ketone acid in it that eats into the plastic surface and seems to actually penetrate the plastic surface. I cleaned off the pcs with some carwash soap and a scouring pad then lightly sanded the really rough(sun damaged) spots. Two light coats and then a few touch-ups and it was done. Darn near looks custom.

Believe it or not, You can use rubber cement in a paint sprayer (I have only used an air paint sprayer, one used for painting cars). Most of your install shops use rubber cement for vinyl and it will not eat it. No heat reaction, and it is somewhat easy for you to take off if you need to re-cover due to a change in colors. Make sure to staple the back of it (where it is not seen). This will make sure that it will hold down on the tight corners.
You are using a backed 3 way stretch vinyl, correct? This is the best for automotive applications, it is tough and will withstand all the wear and tare of a cars interior surface?

              replacing

I need some tips on how to replace interior roof. This is going to be my first project car, so I'm a newbie. :|
Aside from cup holders, I've always wanted a moon/sun roof. I've read that a number of people on here have done it but so far I haven't found anyone who posted a good how-to.
              Thanks
