  • Painted my car today!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a day. My buddy the painter came over at 11 this morning to help paint. But 1st we had to go to the junkyard and pull a 460 out of a tow truck for him. Got back, ate lunch and started painting around 3 pm. Shot a coat of epoxy primer as sealer then 2 good coats of base followed by 3 clear coats. Finished around 9:30. Long day. Painting makes me very nervous, but I painted the whole car (my 1st) all by myself (with an expert watching). Color is VW Jazz Blue similar to Negaro Blue.

Not sure if I will be doing stripes on the car. Maybe off white, bright white or a black stripe(s). One stripe, 2 stripes? Click the poll and also post your opinions. Windows will be tinted.

Next week I will get a quart or 2 of enamel of the same color and shoot the under carriage. Then start assembly.

Bravo! I'll drop mine off tomorrow!
As I was perfectly drifting past the apex Joey48442 looked at me and yelled "You know, I have never been in a rollover accident before!"... it all went downhill from there.

Geeze(tongue hanging out) I hope my paint job turns out as nice as yours!

BTW, I voted no stripes. Simple and clean. Tinted windows would be awesome!

        ...

I was going to say one clean one right under the body line under the windows all the way back in black, along with (black) tinted windows and some gunmetal/black wheels... It would look sick!! 8) Just my .02 tho... -Kyle

if you could get an oem stripe from Roger in a color that will look good. I have only seen 4 colors of the stripe. White, black, silver and red.

other than that, I wouldn't do stripes..

If you were going to do strips then before the clear, would be the best time to do it. Then a crap load of sanding to even them out. But if you didn't do them then, your not 100% committed to do them heart and soul. This tells me you should just go with a clean look.

This down the road will keep you happy and you won't be like, I wish I had never did stripes, or be maybe I should have done the stripes different.

Just How I would see a choice like that! 100% yes or no not a good idea.

                Thanks

If I end up doing stripes they will be over the clear sice the clear is on. I would use a single stage paint. My friend did his 65 mustang that way and it came out really nice. Just wet sand the stripes and buff. They look good, there is a step but it is a smooth step.

Still on the fence about the stripe, leaning a little toward none.

                    No stripes

I said no, but I like the clean look.

Nice paint - looks like you got little or NO orangepeel. Did you have a dryer in your air line?

Mine came out nice for my first time shooting, but no dryer, and got some orange peel. Buffed right out, tho. I used a base/clear acrylic because its cheap and forgiving.

                    Looks GREAT!!!

I have very little orange peal. Nothing that 2000 grit and buffing won't fix. No air dryer, just drained my air tank prior to starting. The base and clear was so easy to spray. I used the Dupont Nason line.

Looks nice man... You even removed the windshield?! Crazy...

Are you going to paint the fender wells again in the rear? I think it'd look "odd" to have them blue... Plus, chipping and what not from constant road abuse...

The window had a big stone chip that drove me crazy. I have a friend that does glasswork and he pulled it and the hatch glass. Once the dash is in I will get him back to put in a new window.

Probably going to keep the fender wells blue. Once the car is lowered and bigger tires installed you won't even see them.
