do not bend them....depending on the year of the controls you will have the issue you speak of. 88-89 had I believe , a flatter wheel with the controls back/straighter. The 90-93 have a wheel that is more forward from the center to the outer wheel, and the controls are pitched forward. If you put a wheel on from the older car then there is little room for clearance. I believe what I posted is true....but I could have it reversed.....lol.

What kind of wheel did you put on?
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

one i found in someone's trash haha. it said "made in italy" on it so i was happy. sanded it and painted it red!!
used one of those grant adapters to put it on. like his (up top) it sat about an inch from the signal and wiper arms. after a while i stopped turning everything on everytime i turned the wheel

You can bend them... You just need to be careful when doing it!

what about a spacer between the wheel hub and the wheel... your steering wheel nut will not have as much to grip, but that is ok.... what about your horn? does that center have a horn?

not sure what you mean that the nut will not have as much to grip...
and yes there is a horn, i just had to make a short ground wire. power wire is already there on the adapter.

so take the steering wheel off, taking off the 17mm nut on the wheel. with the wheel off, put a spacer over the center nut, then re-install the wheel. This will make the steering wheel closer to you in the seat, and then put your nut back on.... with less grip. Does this make sense? One thing also i just thought about was your turn signal cutouts, i don't know how they'd fit in to this.... unless you did a spacer that was glued to the steering wheel that you'd cut the turn signals out so you're blinker will turn off when you turn.

Ok i see what you're saying about the nut. makes sense.
Everything to do with the blinkers is in the combination turns/wipers switch. changing the wheel does not mess with that

this might be your missing link for the turn signals. it's from an adapter kit i picked up from pepboys. when you pull off your wheel, you expose a white piece of plastic with two knubs sticking out...this is part of the signal "system". When you put the adapter on, the two knubs fit into those two indentions outside of the center hole. then the "pot" on the back of your new steering wheel attaches to the adapter, probably with three bolts, and the steering wheel attaches to the pot via 5 or 8 small screws.

I hope I'm making sense. The three bolts that hold the pot on...you can attach a ground wire to one of these for the horn

^ I don't think you can do that with the grant kit because it has a disc with aluminum foil applied to it for the horn to pick up current. I've installed one, and yes they are close to the wiper/light switches.
