  • window track swap?

for some time now i have been wanting to get rid of the cable and pulley window system that festivas come with and put something more reliable like track and guide system that normal cars have in them in it. im tired of having to hold my windows back so they dont tip forward or bind up and break the cables. they are a pain in the rear as they are now. my passenger side one might as well stay up cause its doesnt work well at all. the drivers side one works ok in the warmer time of year but gets hard to roll up when its cold. what i need to know is there any kind of track and guide system that can be adapted to go into a festiva. i realise it would have to be out of something with thin doors like the festivas have so as not to rub.

You can buy new window regulators from Festiva Motorsport that will fix that problem.

Welllllll... "More Reliable"? Sorry but my 1990 still has the Original cheap crappy cable and guides. If you lube all the stuff inside the door with a Light grease and spray the window felt with Silicone Lube they'll work much better.

my 88 has the originals. Lubed them once about 4 years ago. Still work great.

Also, lots of manufacturers use a cable or tape system.

the forward track is held in place by ONE tack/spot weld and a "hook" that attaches to a notch that sits in the window channel right where the frame and plastic cover meet. when the spot weld fails, it allows the forward track to hang loose and allow the window to tilt forward. eventually, the forward track falls into the door (still attached to the window channel seal).

hope this makes sense. 'cuz itz da truuf dawg

yeah i thought it was wierd too, but when we pulled the pannel off to examin(sp), that's what we found. the drive system is still good.

Festyboy you should make a how-to for people to fix their regulators, or pull some extras and beef them up to resell to the unfortunate crooked window guys.

i think its both the weak metal and lack of lubrication. if the assembly doesnt slide, extra force being frustrated will break the weld. if your car never sat around and wasnt dried out you will never have that problem. Maybe out in the Westwe do not have rust but all the reg's fail LoL. Ive never seen good windows at the yard. My 89 had a broken driver, and the guy who came over for parts...his car needed one too.
