  • tach cluster question?

ok, i've been searching and i seem to have found that the 89 L is kinda hit or miss with the wiring for the tach. i looked in my car, and it does have a yellow/green wire from the coil. does this mean that it has the wiring for the tach? Thanks,
    andy
ps. if i'm in the wrong section, feel free to move the post.
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

The YEL/GRN wire at the coil should be in every car... whether it is in the wiring harness that connects to the instrument cluster i don't know.. I have a 91 GL auto (to be 5spd) and didn't come with a tach in the cluster... next time i have my cluster out, i'll look at the wiring harness to see if a YEL/GRN wire is in the harness even though it isn't connected to the cluster..
here is the other thread for tach install:

don't know if this helped or not... i'll check my instrument cluster wiring within the week.

only the 88 and 89 cars had the wiring issue. 90 and up, all cars got the same harness (supposedly).

          Tach

Both of my 91s and my 93 have the tach wire.

I had an 89 that was not set up for the tach. It supposedly is not hard to make it work though. 1 wire. Is that right Jim?

sounds right. '88 and '89 without rear defrost didn't have the tach wire (usually).

Oh, I guess you were asking if one wire was correct... yes. Run from the negative side of the ignition coil to the tach pin on the cluster. Done.
