  • Festiva spoiler

I have never seen one in person(Spoiler). Someone tell me how to take one off, ALL the parts for it(gaskets, caps, screws, etc.) and how to install on a non-spoiled Festy. Thank you in advance for the details.

I just installed mine over the weekend so I can share my experience at least.

To remove the spoiler from a car it is fairly straightforward:

    1. Pop the screw caps off. There are two on each side. Carefully using a small screwdriver or something similar to pry them open. It is virtually impossible to remove them without some damage so don't sweat it too much if you find it challenging.

    2. Using a good phillips screwdriver remove the screws that you now have exposed by removing the screwcaps.

    3. Pry the spoiler away from the hatch. It is stuck on by a strong adhesive foam rubber or vinyl pad on each side. You probably won't be able to save the adhesive pads.

    4. Optional: remove the nylon screw seats from the hatch. I did not use them on my car though because it requires making bigger holes than I wanted to make.

    Installation is pretty self explainatory.
    1. Locate the position for the spoiler by test fitting it. Once you have an idea of where you want to mount it, you can use a pencil to make an outline on each side. Double-check the position from several angles to make sure it is even on both sides.

    2. Once you have the spot figured out, position the spoiler in place and use a drill with a small bit (1/16 inch or so) and drill the top hole in each side. Do not drill the bottom hole yet as you will test mount the spoiler first before drilling the final holes.

    3. Test mount the spoiler using stainless steel screws in the holes that you just drilled. View the spoiler from several angles to make sure it is in a spot that you like. If you need to re-drill the holes then this is your last chance

    4. With spoiler test mounted in the proper position, drill the bottom screw holes now and install the stainless screws. Then remove everything again for the next step.

    5. Applying adhesive and final mounting: Clean the hatch and the spoiler mounting surfaces with paint thinner or solvent to remove any oils or waxes. Once the surfaces are clean, apply an adhesive of your choice to the mounting surfaces of the spoiler. I used mold resistant bathtub calk which was white and matched my car/spoiler color but you could use silicone adhesive as well. let the adhesive set up for a few minutes so it is not runny then install the spoiler again with the stainless steel screws.

    6. After the spoiler is firmly mounted and the adhesive has set up a bit you can reattache the screw covers using more adhesive as you see fit.

    Good luck!

Remove the 4 small caps,(use small screwdriver to help remove caps) two on each side. Use a phillips screwdriver and take out screws. Really simple. To install, hold on the car in position (kinda only fits right in one spot). Take a sharpie and stick in holes to mark the spots to drill. I always use some RTV adhesive to help glue the spoiler on (they originally had two sided tape) And I have never reused the little plastic things that the screws originally had, just drill the right size holes for the screws put it on.
