  • Rust Stains?

Any ideas on how to get rust staining off of paint? (White in this case) I've got the staining on the rear hatch from where it was/is rusty below the window and from the license plate bolts.

Is there a product that would help? Buff, polish or sand?

    Thanks in advance,

    Shawn

Is it just surface rust? I would say use ruff sand paper.

Its not even actual rust. Its where there was rust above and the constant rain/damp has caused the colour in the rust to run down into the paint below.

I used rubbing alcohol to get some out, and used a rubbing compound for the stubborn ones.

Go to Napa and look for TR-3 resin wax and polish.

We use to use comet cleanser to get surface rust stains off back in old days. Just wet a rag, put little comet on it, and rub gently. Then wax it after your done.

CLR works very well to lift rust stains out of paint. Doesn't hurt the paint.

I remember my dad using comet back in the day at his body shop,it would dull the paint a little then he would hit it with the buffer!!!

Wouldn't Simple Green work, or is that too corrosive?
