Has any one put a set of recaro seats in a festy??? Know where to get some brackets???

I have racing seats in my car... I had a custom set of brackets bent for the car and paid $60 to have them made.

The place that I had mine originally done at won't anymore. They actually custom make boats and they did them because they had some free time.

Any bodyshop or metal/welding shop will be able to bend you up a set pretty easily.

$60 is a friggin steal...don't expect to pay that little if u go to a welding shop.

expect more like 150 for a pair. Be sure you get sliders though b/c the brackets are seperate from the sliders.

              seats

i recently put in a pair of pontiac fiero seats into my festy (this week actually ) they are close to being racing seats but have dual 3.5inch speakers in each headrest.

i cut off the mounts from the festiva seats using a cutoff wheel and a drill for the rivets.

i then cut off the mounts from the fiero seats

the fiero seats are even on both sides because they sit on a level surface, unlike the festiva seats where the outside edge is actually 2 inches lower on the outside edge.

i bolted down the detached mounts for measuring, laid a piece of quarter by 2x2 angle iron acrossed and tacked everything in place making sure the outside edge sat off the mount by 2 inches.

              ex:

              _________________
              | L <- e-brake side mount
              L <door side mount

then after removing the tacked up pieces i laid a piece of reinforcement into the door side mount considering the bottom of the angle piece was welded in the corner instead of on the main of the piece. boxing that in made sure even my large sized buddy tyler can sit in the seats with no worries of bending.

the fiero sliders sat beautifully on the very level angles. the slider part that stays in place was about 1/8 an inch lower than the brackets they slid on making mounting very easy. i welded the sliders directly to the angles in front and back making sure to check fitment first to see for comfort and straightness.

afterwards i sat down and realized the quarter inch 2x2 angle was probably overkill lol... but i know the seat mounting will prolly outlast most other parts of the car lol.

unfortunately fiero seats dont recline all the way back like festiva seats do. in exchange for driving comfort i sacrificed sleeping comfort for on those trips you just need to stop for a nap. fieros dont even have a back seat, they have a wall 4 inches bahind the front seats so they never had to fully recline lol... oh well... cant have everything!

hope this helped or something? if you have any q's just ask and ill try to explain further! maybe i will take pics tomorrow if i get out of bed before noon

                  seats pics

oknow i got the pics up but these are from before i went back and boxed the mounts in for more support on the outsides...

first one shows the outside mounts. since the angle is 2x2x1/4, i laid the inside mounts inside the elbow of the angle and then used the bottom edge of the angle wlded ontothe back edge of the outside mount. later i went back and welded a piece of bracing to the open sides for more strength. i also ground down the edges and made them come up at more of an angle so they dont look quite as tacky lol. ill have to take another pic of that sometime this weekend.

here is a pic of how the inside mounts were done. since the top of the festiva mount was flat, i sat it inside the angle and welded all the way around it for strength. i did this to both inside mounts.

here are the sliders which sat evenly acrossed the angles on front and back, i simply welded the ends on the back and underneath on the bottom for extra strength. i didnt weld the sides because that would've affected the chairs sliding surfaces, 8 welds should be enough to hold the chair in place

and heres how it sits on the car all nicen pretty, well ok its got a tear in the side but the seats were from my fiero parts car and not my good GT.

if anyone wants i can do another chair and take full pics just for the site, ive got 1 more fiero seat and extra festiva seats i could hack up lol.

can we say my first sticky?

I think it's because you're using bmp format. On the net you're suppose to use jpeg and gif format. By the way your pictures are a littly to tiny for my eyes

:x <-that's me trying to see some details on your pics

Man those seats are cooooool. Also if your pics don't work, you could also post them as an URL. It's not as nice as a pic, but it's better than cutting and pasteing.
