how do you take the body part that is front of the windshield with the
vent slots to get to the windshield wiper arms? i have one arm that needs replacing and i do not want to damage the body part cover.

That is welded on, leave it alone. Take the wiper motor and backing plate off and you'll see how to replace everything.

If you really want to know... It's something along the lines of:

      1. remove windshield
      2. remove welds in cowl

As Matt said, remove the wiper cover and motor and you'll be able to reach up in there. My dads wipers were broken for the longest time and we recently ripped it apart and get them back on track.
