  • tach install.

im trying to install a autometer tach in my car and i am trying to figgure out if the stock motor is a 1 or 2 pulse... im kind of lost but i think its just a one pulse... also IIRC there is a wire in the back of the cluster that you can tap in to, what one is that? and is it a pos. or neg. from the coil?

what do you mean by '1 or 2 pulse'?

It's a ground signal, one pulse per ignition event, so two pulses per crank revolution (4cyl).

was it in a festiva, or somthing else? did you have it on the neg or pos of the coil? every tach ive hooked up is on the pos. but autometer says to go to the neg...

almost all modern tach connect to the negative side.

The only tachs that connect to the positive side, that I'm aware of, are current sensing units, connected in series with the coil positive.
