  • Another Fiberglass/carbon fiber exterior thread

I have found someone that does nice quality work and a cheaper rate for fiberglass/carbonfiber products that is willing to expand to the festiva community. I've been talking with hime via email for the past week or so to set up something.

The purpose for this thread is mainly to see who is interested. He is very knowledable about PIM plastics/glassing. He uses a 2x2 carbon weave and clearcoat everything CF for UV protection. He is located out of Calif/Mexico border. I figured if we use a cheaper shipping company say Old Dominion and get them drop shipped to a business in the midwest we can then disperse from there via pony express or something.

He is interested in making hatches, hoods in OEM or GTX form (GTX) would have to be provided from someone, spoilers, interior...whatever everyone comes in the agreement to.

I have yet to ask for prices...we are still working that over based upon the volumn of product.

Pictures of his work will be up later this weekend or the first part of next week.

**edit** I didn't feel the need to post this into the [FS] thread yet until it becomes official.

The fiberglass copy of the GTX hood would be ok to mold a copy off of, wouldn't it? Or would it have to be a steel version? I don't know much about this stuff. What's better, carbon fiber, or fiberglass?

Depends on the look you want. I say fiberglass if you wish to paint....although you can paint over CF as well. If the carbon fiber chips it alot harder to patch. You can make a mold off of basically anything use a release agent.

Personally, I think the GTX hood should be your one and only mission at this time. It is the one thing that can probably be built to where the production guy can make money, you can make some money and people on the forum can still afford to purchase.

                Wes,
You know what I'm waiting for, but other fiberglass parts would work also. A JDM front and FMS rear bumper would be cool also, or maybe a whole new design.

Really I'm looking to make no money as the middle-man. He has done some fiberglass/CF spoilers from a injected plactic mold before. So i don't see the complications in a festivas spoiler. Yes i do believe a GTX would be a top selling item. I myself would like a fiberglass hatch, because i am going to have him graft my tail finisher into it. I don't like the idea of fiberglass onto metal, even if it is done right with grinding, 2 part epoxy....

I would definitely committ to buying a fiberglass/carbon fiber GTX hood, hatch, JDM/GTX frt. & rr. bumpers. Wish FMS had these readily available, I like the idea of supporting our already exiting Festiva vendor.

......... on the other hand, having another source(S) for these custom parts is definitely a big plus for sure.

I have one of Rollame's Tail Finishers and like the idea mentioned of having it molded into the fiberglass hatch, that would be a nice option should that be available also.

If I have the money while this is being done, I might be game. What kind of weight difference do you figure you'd see on a Festiva?
