  • Project: Rust Free Festiva

I have owned my 90 lx for almost 2 years now and the rust has gotten BAD so i decided that i was going to remove ALL of the rust. My experience in rust repair is... none. But i have welded many hitches, snowboarding ramps etc.

    anyways, heres how shes looking.

there are MANY more spots of rust.

rear bumper support is sooo rusty. i think ill just make a new one.

Im bringing the entire interior into my basement to be cleaned.

I went to the junkyard the other day and picked up a hitch for $20. rewelded a few things, wired up the van and there we are. Now i can go get a donor car for the next project.

I picked up 22guage steel, would have preferred 24guage but thats ok. I also picked up trigon gas and nailed a couple two-fours together to make a welding cart. cost me about $5. Yes.. i am cheap

    picked up some autobody hammers.

the actual body work will start as soon as i can get new decals like this one. Im hopping they wont cost to much.

Well thats about it for now. I am expecting progress to be slow but thats ok. im shooting for end of May to be done.

Wow, looks like you're ready to go.

I'm in the same boat, I have some rust, most of my interior is out, have tons of new parts to put on it, but no garage or time to work on it

I'll keep this thread saved and check back for more updates!

I am confident you will learn alot and do a fine job. Take many, many pics, then take a bunch more!

Are you planning on media blasting the entire car?

                      Here is a small update.

Still need to cut that rust out.

cut out all the rusty parts. that is just surface rust. ill sandblast that later.

this is how it sits right now.

well. there was more there then i had expected. i will be making new panels hopefully tomorrow after work. Ill also rustproof everything. i dont want this to happen again.

dang. in the last picture you can see that my front strut is leaking. Well i know what my next project is atleast

I have worked a little over time so i havent done to much but here are some pics.

I had wanted to finish that while corner but i couldnt bend a piece of metal to fit properly, so im going to go to a junk yard tomorrow and what i can find. So far i have made 4 replacement panels. the welds are strong but not perfect and a couple times i burnt holes through. Oh well, its a learning process.

So, after 3.5 years i finally gave my two weeks notice at work . during summer ill be working with my uncle in BC so i have to speed up a little. Anyways, here is what i have done.

I got rid of all the rust in the bottom trunk of the car so i sprayed it with a rubber coating. then i welded a little bit and saw a large fire. i wasnt happy. luckly only the back right speaker, taillight and wiper wires were burnt.

                          heres one of me!

Im not very happy with how the left side is turning out so far, the curve isnt right. Im hopping to have the rest of the left side put in tomorrow. Ill try to update more regularily.
