  • Cargo Spare Tire Carpet

Is there something besides molded carpet that is supposed to sit/fit over the spare tire in the cargo area? If so what is it called? Cargo carpet? My festy came with a bunch of remnant carpet pieces, none of which completly covers the area and I want to get rid of that and put something a little more "clean" back there.

Yes, there is a molded piece of carpet that is supposed to cover the rear hatch area. It meets the rest of the carpet under the rear seat. Assuming you have the board that actually goes over the spare tire well, correct? Shouldn't be too hard to find in a j/y, might just have to give whatever you find a good scrubbing.

    Looks like this-

Held down by these, where this piece meets the passenger area carpet-

If the piece you end up getting doesn't have those ^ You can buy them at pretty much any parts place.

I'm sure he's got what you need, if you can't find it nearby. Give him a call. Here's a link to some of what he has.

Yeah..I am going to try him as well. Just not sure he will be willing to ship the carpet though. We'll see when I call.

Shipping the carpet is cake. Shipping the board that goes underneath of it might be a bit harder. Can't remember if either of the Festivas I'm picking parts off of later had carpet or not. Wasn't really looking for that.

Hmm..could you take a picture of the board and post it? Maybe I can make my own.

Here ya go. First one is the top. Second one is the underneath. Went a head and took some measurements. Thinking about a DIY myself. You can see the water damage to mine in the pics. Think it's coming from the left rear tail light. Have to tear into that later.

My dimensions are goofy in the sketch, I know. But the measurements are right.

So is it like a really stiff card board or more like ..well I call it backer board..the board that has the evenly spaced holes in it that is some times used in bathrooms instead of sheet rock (if that makes sense).

                  Also how thick is it?

Now that I think about it backer board might be a good fix/solution for this!

You could use thin plywood maybe 1/4" which would be kind of thick compared to original or you can get that type of press board at Home Depot or Lowes.

I use a full-size tire as my spare, and only use the carpet without either of the boards, since the full-size tire is thicker than the space-saver one. I won't have a space-saver tire in my car.

Don't know if you've decided to go the DIY route, but I went ahead and snagged the piece of carpet that you needed, as well as the board that goes over the spare tire well. If you don't want it, that's fine, I'll keep it. It's actually in better shape than mine anyway.
