  • Rear Interior Side Panel

Would it be easier to just repaint mine or get new ones from someone? Mine are all scratched. These are hi-jacked pictures of aglatfe1

Also does this piece extend behind the seat and is it a part of the speaker compartment/casing or is it just what I circled plus whatever goes below/on the side of the seat?

Okay, if the scratches aren't too deep, something like Duplicolor, made for plastic/vinyl does pretty well. Guessing if you could find Krylon Fusion in the right color, it might work better. If you could find a good, non scratched up piece that would be great. But on a 15 or 20 year old car, that'll be a crap shoot at best.

As far as getting that piece out, if you tilt your back seat forward, there are three screws along the seam between that piece and the cargo area piece. You will have to take out the two screws at the front of the speaker grills. One screw in that hole in the middle of the piece you are talking about. Trying to remember if you have to pull the back seat belt, or just take the front bolt out, you'll have to pull the weather stripping around the back edge of the door area out of the way, and then it's just popping it loose from a few clips. Actually easier than all those directions make it sound. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes at most, if nothing is rusted. There may be one or two screws that hold the bottom edge of that piece to the floor. Been a while since I pulled that piece, can't remember for sure. All screws are Phillips.

Ok...food for thought. The number of scratches in my plastic is excessive. I am willing to take/accept some scratches in a newer/different piece..anything has to be better than the scratches in my car right now.

you could go to the trouble of a thin layer of bondo to hide the scratches and then a color matched paint to blend it with the other panels

^^ I wondered about that, just never had a set in bad enough shape to try it.

Well, pwgus is sending me a set of his and his are better than mine. As a result, I will just color match and paint these. The ones currently in my car are horrible! I would probably have to do the bondo thing to get them to look decent.

Speaking of color match does any one know the best paint match/color for the gray interiors?

Yeah, I just duplicolored mine, my grandma had a dog and it scratched the heck out of them... used some ordinary filling putty and they look better. im goin for the "blacked out" look.

I used duplicolor, can't remember the exact color name, but it was so close to the original gray interior color. If I still have a can around here, I'll give you the color. For some reason, I'm thinking if you go for their vinyl/plastic specific paint, there's only one that's gray.

And Falcon, I'd be all over a blacked out interior.

Also if you have rear seat belts you have to take out a bolt that anchors it to get the panel off, at least its that way on mine

                      FYI
Shops that support the body shop trade have spray can paint in colors that match most of the various tans and gray shades found on plastic car interior panels and trim.

I repainted mine using camoflauge color paint and here is how it turned out. I did use some water and very very fine sandpaper. Im doing my whole interior this color except for dash which will stay a darker brown, and i'm not doing the ceiling.
