  • Interior Changes

    Well, I've been in the process of converting the interior in my 93 GL back to the 88/89 style. it all started because of the clunky, non-functional automatic belts.

    Hitup the junkyard over the weekend and grabbed a set of manual belts, rear panels, and rear lap belts.

    I got the belts installed last week, but held off on installing the new panels until today. I was hoping that my pillar covers would be in before I took everything apart, but wanted to get it done with. The pillar covers should be here Monday, so that'll just be a quick swap in. Once those are all in, then it'll be time to see if I can get the headliner installed and looking alright.

    No pictures yet... But I'll snap some sometime.

    FWIW... Swapping the rear shoulder belts over to the lap belts was a chore. The bolts are switched (the front is bigger, vs. the rear being smaller on 90+ and the 88/89 is switched). Anyways - I like the look of the rear lap belts, plus it'll cut down on the wear and tear on the rear panels. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to keep them or swap back to the shoulder belts. Nobody ever sits in the back anyways... So, we'll see.

    Next on the list is to install the Escort rear wiper gear so the wiper lays down.

    cheesy headliner

    All the Festivas sold in Canada had a thin glue in headliner and manual belts for all years. The U.S. had the nice thick headliner, but had the automatic seatbelts. I left the tracks in but cut the seatbelt trim just above where the manual bolts would go. You can hardly tell I cut them. Best of both worlds. Detroit Festiva with Ontario manual seatbelts.

      Yeah... I was going for the swap with the thin headliner.

      I got the pillar covers in the mail today and went at it. I had the 88/89 headliner swapped in, and took it out. It was going to be too much work to get it to installed correctly, and then I think it would've been louder without the padding, etc.

      So - I retrofitted... I added the pillar covers to the car and went back to the newer headliner. I'm going to do something to cover up the sides where the headliner doesn't cover. I'm not in a huge rush since it doesn't look horrible. We'll see how it goes.

        you can always pull the cover off it and add some sections to the side then recover the headliner

        Glad shes comming together - Can't wait to see the pictures - on the rear can you simply remove the paper washer and swap the two bolts around?

          manual belts

          Just use the Canadian "B"-pillar covers, and poke a couple holes in them where the power seat belt cover towers go. I cut my power tracks just above where the manual belt attaches. You need the power tracks to mount the U.S. headliner.
