  • Possible discovery for front bumper lip.

Not sure if "bumper lip" is the right term but here goes. I've been looking for ways to extend the bottom of the front bumper. I know that some have used lawn edging and other things but I wanted to try and find something that looked factory. I had looked at one off a VW Golf/Jetta but it turned out to be too narrow.

I was back at PnP today having a look around and saw a 91 Mazda 626 4 door with just the thing. It looked like it would be close to fitting and was easy to remove, just a number of stainless steel screws. Got it off the 626 and went over to a Festiva I knew was sitting there and tried it on for size.

It's the darker gray thing under the front bumper in this picture...

It looks very promising! It appears to be very close to the correct width and would only need trimming on the ends closest to the tires so I decided to pick it up and it cost me less than $6.00.

I'm going to try and fit it this weekend and if I do I will report back... with pictures.

I was going to get one of those for my car, but went with the one from a volvo instead since it was a little beefier. I do have a different bumper, but I'm sure it would be close to fitting a stock bumper too!

          Cool ideas!!

I know I am often looking at other cars with front bumpers similar in siza and/or shape to ours. My original idea was to fit an S-10 front air dam, but someone else here beat me to it.

When I see bumper covers and other similar type "roadkill" car parts, I often wonder if I should be picking them up to see if I can ever use them, whole or cut up.

I got started on this little project this afternoon and went to take my first picture and discovered someone took the batteries out of the camera. Anyways, here's what I've figured out so far:

                - the portion of the lip that returns towards the rear of the car is about 6" too long so I've lopped that off on one side and I'll get the other one next opportunity I have to work on it.

                - the unit is about 5/8" too wide. It made in two pieces which really help so I've just cut that much off the driver's side portion.

Had to call it a day but next time I work on it I'll make sure I have camera batteries!

Wes, what'd it take to put that on? Just some screws, or glue, or what? Also, how sturdy is it?

Did you come up with the idea yourself or read it when I posted the idea a few years back? I remember looking at an S-10 front end in the lot of my condo, which would have been before 2004, when I moved to my house WITH GARAGE YEAH.
