Hmm... I would say they would be long enough to reach the top portion of the console cubby. You would need to find new mounting points on the opposite side of the plenum toward the seats and that the controls move in the right direction. The other consideration would be making sure, if you have A/C, that the cable to control the temperature cutout switch remains functional.
Pics 1&2 show the mounting points, and if you look at the cable housing clips locations, that may help you with some ideas of where to relocate them. An extra plenum would help.

Well I pulled it all apart.. Good news is there is room in the dash for a double din head unit... bad news is one of the cables is too short.
The vent selection and temperature cables are plenty long.. but the in/out air cable is too short.. I wonder if I could find a longer cable in another mazda? Or... dose anyone have measurements on how long the cables are in a regular festiva? Mine is RHD so everything is reversed... so maybe if I'm lucky the cables are longer in a north American festiva?89SX funtop! Fully loaded!

Stefan - I plan on relocating mine to the glove box one day - what I did was nabbed a few extra control units and plan on using the longest cords from all three of them to make it work - you can also use a cable from any other vehicle - for the longest time my hot/cold selector was running off a cable to opperate the heater valve on a peterbilt - all you have to do is cut back the insulation and bend in your "loop" end to hook to the mode door - I recomend always bending the loop end - I originally tried to bend the end that hooks into the selector switch and wound up stressing the metal too much that it wound up breaking after a few uses - the loop end lasted a whole year and is still in good condition when I pulled it off and replaced it with a stock one last time I pulled the heater controls

if nothing else start looking in the yard for the cable controled heaters in older vans - that should give you a cable long enough and you can just trim it to fit.Last edited by Festiva_tunner; 11-01-2009, 09:09 AM.
