  • lights, cigarette lighter, action!

Walking through my favourite spot for fresh air at lunch (Standard Auto Wreckers), thinking that there was nothing else to possibly modify, I spotted this...

    A lighted cigarette lighter!
This has the same dimming capabilty as the gauges and radio. The Festiva steel ring is the exact same size. Instead of lighting the ashtray, I am going to light the storage compartment where I keep my Kleenex cube.

Sorry, but I think this was from a Sonata, but don't quote me on that. I will be going back for the small flush lights in the doors.
I will be making up new panels with red stiched black leather to match my Tiburon seats.

    This is a Festiva?
Now maybe a lighted ring aroung the ignition switch...

                not sure

I am not sure what car I took this out of. There are too many cars in the yard. I couldn't find it. Anyway, here is what the ashtray looks like:

As you can see from the next picture, the two ears on the green Festiva ring must be carefully depressed in order to remove the Festiva lighter.
The whole job is best done with the lower console removed.

The other body is slightly longer, because it has threads for the jam nut.
The ring is white, but you can illuminate it with any colour mini bulb. Just get one from another expensive car. This one is blue, but I have a green one.

Again the retainer rings have identical inner diameters and notches.

                  Mazda 929

I know exactly what car the lighter came off of. A 1993 Mazda 929.
I found another one in the yard today.

I installed the lighter yesterday. No problems, no clearance issues, Nice and snug.
Good luck finding one in your neck of the woods.

                      Mazda Millenia

The lighter from a Mazda Millenia will also fit the Festiva. It is lighted and the stock Festiva lighter will fit. The light is blue. However, it does not have an ashtray light.

Please be aware that the lighter from a Mazda 929 is slightly longer, and the Festiva lighter does not make contact with the back.

                          t-bird courtesy

Found these in a couple of T-birds at the yard today. They were in the storage compartment between the seats. I'm only putting in one. I just have to drill a round hole in the middle of the Festiva storage unit and snap it in.

                            voila

Drilled an 1-1/4" hole in the middle of the roof of my storage compartment and popped in the Thunderbird light.

Hooked up to a battery to see if it works...

I like. It will be on the dimming circuit along with the cigarette lighter.
Now where did I put the box of Kleenex tissue?
