  • Break Down of Pins on Instrument Panel

Can anyone that knows or someone w/an Electric Manual maybe help me figure out what the Pins on the Back Instrument Cluster Goes to? I Know they Hook up to the Round Plastic Clips but in General (Positive, Ground, Signal, etc)

A few of them are obvious what they are for but would like to make sure. Seen this Perfect Picture thanks to Charliez post of breakdown procedures. too lazy to take my own!

PS: it took me about 15min of searching old files moved from comp to comp over the last 10 years or so to dig that up!

This is amazing! This is More than I expected! Thanks man that really puts the colors of wires to what they do. This is a Great Post! I'm Building custom Instrument panel & Definately Getting Rid of the Cable Speedometer (Its annoying lol) Think of going w/ some autometer guages. Wah, Your a genious...haha. Maybe the Tachometer Reads from one of the Ignition Circuit Function?

Yours may or may not have the tach wire - it just depends some did some didn't - but it reads off the module wire that runs to the coil

Hey buddy, I remember your festy at the big louis meet. I currently have an OEM tachometer cluster & it works. I was just curious to find out which direct wire I need to Splice into to wire up an aftermarket tachometer. What did some of you that have tachs do? Surely though if the OEM Tachometer gets an Input signal through the Factory Wire harness that Plugs into the back there should be a wire that is direct to the coil already.

ok, heres what I'm trying to figure out now- there are 3 circuits that run to the tachometer that I have pointed out below.
            1. Top One That Goes to the Left Pin is Ignition (Switched +)
            2. Middle one is Ground circuit
            3. Bottom Goes to Letter "I" that was stated above Goes to "Nothing"
so, that is the Break down of what is running the factory OEM tachometer. However, I believe the Ignition is more of a Switched Positive +
            1. Top One That Goes to the Left Pin is Ignition (Switched +)
            2. Middle One Is the Ground Circuit
            3. tachometer Signal/Coil wire
am I really the Only 1 that has attempted to add tachometer through factory wires? haha I believe that the Pin you Dubbed "I" that Does'nt go to anything is actually the Coil Signal I Need maybe the wiring schematics states nothing since only a few came w/factory tach. I Looked at the tachometer itself & Noticed that all 3 contacts were the screws attache to tach have some electric wear on the contact points so all 3 are getting some sort of connection.

not sure why you would want to wire in an aftermarket tach if you have the Festy speedo/tach set up.

I was Waiting for someone to question it. The reason is when I Put in aftermarket Speedometer I will have to Eliminate the Plastic Cover that Protects the Needles Since I will Need to Be able to reach my speedometer Button to Calibrate & reset Tripometer. Plus Exposing all the Other Needle Guages probably would'nt last very long before I bumped them & Screwed em up. But This custom Instrument Panel will still have the Factory Warning lights/Symbol Lights still Functioning. Let me know if you Follow my wording-

Yes, the 'I' that is "not used" is the tach wire. It should be yellow and green.

That is correct - I've noticed some of the older cars may not have the wire - I'll snap a picture of where you need to tap into to get signal if you dont have the wire at the plug
