Newer cars have a relay that turns off the fog lights if the high beams are on
The switch is prety easy to tap into on the columb - I'll have to look tonight and let you know what wires you need to tap - My fog lights are turned on by relay when I click my parking lights on - I have a switch to manually over ride them.
you can install a simple relay to control the switching of your fog lights from fog to running
you would need a relay that contains both poles of the switch - most auto parts stores are starting to carry the single throw relays so these may be dificult to track down. the relay mentioned would be fog lights in one position (de-energized) and driving lights in the other (energized) - you can take this effort one step further and control the power to your aux lights with a relay that is controled by the switch.
If you want you can wire into the individual functions of the headlight switch and use two seperate single throw relays to control the lights with the high beam function.
It was very simple to wire and theres extra relay holders up under the dash near your buzzer and your turn signals
I just remembered I had a diagram loaded to photobucket

If you wire your relay controls into the Red with Blue stripe for lows and the Red with white stripe for the Highs you will have individual relay control - the way teh switch is designed the Lows cannot be energised with the highs accept during flash to pass

It's actually illegal down here to have more than 4 lights on at a time on the road and your fog lights must turn off when your high beams are on.

I don't care what they call the 'fog lights' on the newer trucks, i hate them. you don't need that much light when you ride that high. Every time I'm around one of these morons who buys a truck for city use, i get blinded because of these stupid things. It sorta makes me want to go around with a bb gun and a baseball bat and take care of all of them.

      /rant sorry :/

So, for about the same price as a fully-loaded 1993 Ford Festiva, you could also wield the power to obliterate a small village in the blink of an eye.

Yup, that's exactly how I was thinking of doing it I was looking through the Haynes the other night to see where to tap for the relays. The auto parts stores around here have a pretty good selection of relays. I'm gonna pick up a couple of 30 amp units to use for this. I looked at the parts list on a box of expensive lights that already comes with the relays and wires and it had a 30 amp in it so I figure a 30 amp off the shelf should work too.

It was pretty simple - I just tapped into the harness before the switch and ran additional wires down to my relays I hide under the dash - LEARN from my experience though - print the picture above and draw your additions and modifications to it. a year from now when something goes wrong and you've forgotten what wire does what you will thank me - I spent an hour figuring out what I wired to what because I lost my skematic that I drew

I cant remember if I used a 30 or 50 I belive the fogs I have a 30 I know my hide aways are a 50 amp with 30s to switch the signal controls so you should be good there.

You might find this beneficial as well, even if you are using the other lights.http://www.alsacorp.com/products/kil...llerchrome.htm

^^ SWEET! Thanks man! I wish I had known about that stuff when first did this. Too bad it's so expensive. I may have to pick up a can of that and re-do them, the headlights were surprisingly easy to disassemble. The lenses pretty much just popped right off.

I could use that on my side marker buckets too. The lenses look good but the buckets are kinda ratty.

I'd love to see someone paint a Festiva with that stuff! Deloreanstiva

It's still cheaper than a new set of headlights, which is basically what I'd have if I used that. I bead blasted the buckets and cleaned up the glass real nice. I then painted the back side of the buckets with Rust Tough satin black. These things looked BRAND NEW when I was done with them. I REALLY wish I had taken some before and after pics.
