Escort console swap?

Maybe I will....the major factor is the lap belt receiver for the 90 - 93 cars. Either swap in the receiver from the 88 - 89 cars or make an extension for the stock one, so that the upper "fat part" is above the center console. Obviously if you have the 88 or 89 Festy this isn't an issue, due to how they made the receiver. The one I have in Casper is like Dan's, and the one in Blue is like that bright blue one. The much-nicer Escort 5-speed shift knob is a direct swap; just screw it on.

Casper's was simple to do since there are no seat belt receivers at all on the center hump. On Blue I have not yet gotten around to doing the rear section, due to the seat belt receiver issue and it being kinda chilly around here right now. (It's 6 degrees as I write this.)

Not a problem!
Just have to figure out how you managed to do that.
The only way I know how to do that would be manually, without the "quote" button.
Or in manually in combination with the "quote" button.

LOL tell me about it! I was trying to figure out how to do it IN the junk yard when it was like 4 outside! There are 2 88 festys sitting in the yard, so your saying if I just grab two latches for the seat belt it should fit with a few mods? BTW I did grab the shift knob already , it was just to damn nice to past it up!

Yes, grab the two latches and the bracket they mount to the floor with. I haven't done this, so the question would be whether the 90-up lap belts will actually work with the 88-89 receiver. Probably; has anyone tried this?

On the one in Casper, I cut off a section in the front of the console, at a convenient seam, to make it fit with the box that's under the radio. I used these cut-off pieces to make two brackets to hold the rear section of the console in place. (The front is held in reasonably well by the seats and the shifter, so I didn't bother to actually screw it to the car in any way.)

I drilled small holes in the console on the sides near the rear. There is a floor-mounted bracket there, for the original console piece that the Festys have in them, which covers the parking brake mechanism and gives you an ashtray. The Escort console itself doesn't extend down far enough to just screw it to the stock floor-mounted brackets, so my homemade brackets are to bridge that gap. I drilled two holes in each of my homemade brackets. One end of each homemade bracket was screwed to the Escort console with a screw and Nylock nut; the other end I screwed to the stock Festy bracket with the screw that goes to that bracket.

Excellent!!!! Thanks for the info! I am going to try and pull it tomorrow and hopfully do the swap next weekend. I will try to take some pics of the process that I use when complete. Maybe now I won't have ashes all over my hatch from people missing the wing windows anymore . Thanks again and I assume you are going to the Ozark meet?

The older latches dont mount to a bracket, they mount directly to the floor. You will have to cut a flap in your carpet just behind the console ashtray to see where they mount. You will find two rubber plugs on either side of the E-brake cable, remove those plugs to expose your mounting spots. Your will also have to change the center ashtray and E-brake cover and make a small wire harness to reach the seat belt light plug under the drivers seat. The old belt latch will work with the newer belts.

i was planning on doing this, but just decided to buy a $3 cup tray at walmart and try it out. It doesnt look stock, but it gets the job done and all i had to do was drill a hole in it and run a longer screw to the bolt already in the floor.

Sorry to get off the subject of the "escort console" but you can also use a 92-95 civic console with pop up cup holders with very little modding. I never finished this project, but there wasn't much left to do to make it look right....

WOW, who needs a escort console lol! That looks really nice now I have to head back out to the JY this afternoon.
