WoooHooo! I can post!
New guy here, just bought a used 91 with 110k on it to save a ton of gas money. I drive about 1000 miles a week, and my Dodge Diesel's 18.5mpg was taking its toll on my Shell card. No interest in engine mods that will take away from the Festiva's gas mileage, but I would love to make it handle a bit more like my wife's Mini. I'll tackle that a little at a time.
It is faded yellow, looks like it belongs in the Austin Powers movies so my wife dubbed it Austin. Fine by me, as long as she doesn't fulfill her desire to put Flower Power stickers all over it! I will rustoleum roller-paint it in the spring to bring it back to a more lusturous hue of yellow. Love the site already- that nugget of information is priceless!
For now, I need a little info that the search function didn't uncover. I am a little tall for the seat in the stock position. The seats are a little worn. Of all the seat swaps, do any of them allow the seat to move farther back? Honda seats seem to have rails a mile long; has anyone swapped in a set of Prelude seats and noticed extra leg room? I'd rather do a plug-and-play swap if possible- I can weld and fabricate a little, but I don't have lots of spare time and I'm not sure I would bet my life on my welds holding in an accident.
I need to do the seats first, cruise control second, and then I'll tackle the Escort console. AFter that, springs and shocks to make it a little more stable in a corner, a different steering wheel, intermitent wipers... that should do it until I decide on strut tower braces front and rear.
Thank you in advance for the information. I knew these cars were cool, and I am glad to find an active owenr's group to help me make it mine.
