  • 323GT Cluster transplant

so i have been going through wiring diagrams the last couple of days figuring out what connections need to be made to make a 323GT cluster work in my festiva by splicing into the festiva's dash harness. I tested all my work yesterday besides the tach and the speedo and it all seems to work! here is a pic of all the jumper wires i used to test the dash.

also here's a video of me testing the dash...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG53ghZsuVc

I'm putting together a chart which has layed out every wire from the 323GT harness by colour matched up to it's corresponding wire on the festiva to make things very simple for anyone else who wants to do this modification. i quickly drew this chart out by hand and using it i got the cluster wired in about 45 minutes.
p.s. my temp gauge does work i tested it before and it went up fine it's just down cause the car is cold.

This makes the 3rd festiva with that cluster, well since i can't say mines the only 323 cluster in a festiva anymore at least i can say mine was the first

        1988 323 GT - B6T Powered

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I noticed when you started it up that the Tach didnt move. Is that some sort of issue? A trick being played on the eyes, or what?

no i didn't hook up the tach for that test because i need to take the wires from the stand alone tach i have in there and hook them to the dash. i just didn't wanna mess with my other tach for just a test, but i know what wires need to go where for that.

So there is a problem. i have the cluster completely installed but since it mounts so much further forward then the stock cluster my speedo cable is too short. what speedo cable could i use that has the same ends on it but a longer overall length? i'm gonna head to the JY today and see if i can get the cable out of the 323GT i got the cluster out of.

Any early 323's should work for you, the end that goes into the tranny can be swapped from cable to cable

not much work at all. everything works. the hardest part was making a custom faceplate and cutting the trim peice to fit. i'm just waiting on a speedo cable and i'll post some more pics and another video of it all working
