  • Saw a Caddilac in the junkyard.
It had a fuel cap caddy.
It was just a little larger than the Festiva fuel door.

I opened up the seam and transplanted the Caddie caddy.
It took about twenty minutes with a pair of sheet metal snips +fine stone grinding wheel to make it fit.
The door has a very nice weight to it.
I will post a picture of it tomorrow in the sunshine.

    • What about removing the latch, or at least cutting the "arm" off, and gluing (Superglue/JB Weld) a magnet to the car body so it holds the door in place/shut?

      • Doug, I just enjoy pushing buttons.

        The transplant was successful!
I need to re-install the hinge with some light springs and then test the striker.

          • Bought a pair of Klein 5½" needle nose pliers.
Perfect for holding the popper springs for bending to reduce tension and mitigate fuel door overtravel.
