What can be done to seal up a poly battery box? There are several vent areas that need filling as well as many gaps in where the lid goes on (up to 1").

Sorry bad wording! my fault! The box will be sealed so that it won't vent into the passenger compartment, but will have a vent tube to the outside.

If you are going to try to get it to adhere to some sort of "regulation" I don't think your home brew battery box is going to jive. Also I think you would need to install an emergency power disconnect in the line as well.

I am going to get a smaller battery and leave it up front. More weight on the front wheels the better IMO.

              This one to be exact

              volume discounts....anyone?

Well it isn't 100% home brew, the box is meant for that size of battery. I think it should work. I already tried putting the battery under the hood and it didn't work too well.

I think grocery getter has his battery up front and he has a turbo setup, also one of the fastest cars.

I can't find any pics though... I think Sasquatch might have some from the mega ford weekend.

I could be wrong though, it occasionally happens. lol.

So the box would need to be air tight I believe. It wouldn't be a good idea to just let the battery vent into the car

The sealed box consists of a box with a lid that has a gasket and bulkhead gromets for the wires running through the box and is vented - the mention of securing means you have to use a form of a tie-down other than just setting the battery in the box

hey , wanted to update everyone since I got so much help. I relocated the battery last night, using 0 gauge wire. It wasn't too hard to hide it, but I highly recommend NOT using it. IT was SOOOOO thick!!!! Before wiring it, I split loomed it in some 3/4inch split loom that fit perfectly.
For the battery box I got a boat battery box, sealed it off and put a vent tube to the outside of the car. So that worked well.
The worst part that I had trouble with was trying to connect the HUGE wire to the positive cable under the hood. I tried welding it, but the weld came out really ugly. So I cut it off and torch soldered it which worked out really well.
And it all works! As well there is more space under the hood, and a bigger battery so that if I ever leave the headlights on for more than a minute, it will still turn over. So thank you all again for the help!
