  • Heated Front Seats?

I was wondering if anyone ever thought about this mod. There is an ebay listing for "carbon fiber heating pads" which I think are made by some German company. They're pretty expensive at over $100 per seat.

I was thinking of this cheaper kit:

Here's one for $99 that could be split to do two seat bottoms, with extra wiring and another button:

Or this heating pad which could be used as is:

I only want to heat my seat bottom, since I'd usually be wearing a coat or heavy sweatshirt and my bum would only be covered by my pants and undies.

I'd like to do both front seats, so I could share the love with any passenger. I think I could rewire this cheap pad to go into the car's electrical system with a proper fuse and I'd have both front seats reupholstered or use a nice seat cover.

Then again, for just me for winter use, and since I don't smoke and have no cig lighter, temporary use by flopping it down and plugging it in would probably make more sense. At 18" X 18" it is a bit big and may not be "installable" in Festiva buckets.

    Thoughts and ideas?

Anyone ever install or use any of these?

I was thinking about doing this a while ago. I was going to buy focus svt seats that have the heater already in them and just make tracks so they would fit and wire in the heaters. They were a very good looking seat, leather on the outside with the middle being mesh w/red or blue. I used to have an svt so that is what gave me the idea. As far as making my own I would be a little bit leary b/c I know even at ford where I work its amazing to see when the seats stop working the nice big burn marks underneath the seat cover. Note, if you don't/can't find the svt seats some regular "foci" came with heated seats, mostly wagons for some reason, however they are very hard to find.

    just a quick note,

believe it or not, heated seats have been an option for the 121DA, here.

Although I never ran across a DA that actually had them I have the factory harness prepared for those heaters.
