  • Interior light auto dim/shut off?

I would like to install the component that dims your interior lights and shuts them off after closing the car door. Don't know what to call it, thus the long description.
Has anyone installed one? Know what they are called? What cars might have one that I could pull and install?
    I hate being Bi-Polar, it's awesome.

^^^ that intellitec kit looks pretty straightforward, probably the best way to go. I would bet some older lux cars might have it in some type of standalone form. But any of the newer ones I'm sure are controlled in some way by the Body Control Module, probably be too hard if not impossible to adapt to a different car. My wife has it on her Malibu, and I love it, but the part I like about it is that it stays on until the key is in and turned. Nice in the winter when its cold and you want the doors shut right away but you need the light to stay on for a minute. Love the radio staying on till the door is open too!

        radio on ignition off

        This one is timed:

[Version 1] There is a really simple and easy way to allow your radio & clock to continue to operate with the vehicle turned off and the key removed...

What about switching to LEDs and using a large capacitor with a diode inline to feed the LEDs after the power is switched off. The diode would prevent the power from going back into the circuit, feeding other things.

          Just a theory.

Thats a good theory, I may try mocking up that type of circuit on the wifey's Fiero since she misses her fade out lights right now while her 'Bu is out of commission. Thanks for the ingenious idea!

Hahaha, no problem. I might have picked it up from somewhere, but I was going to try this circuit in my Grand Marquis. Never found the time

some viper alarms do this. dome on when you unlock, stays on when you close the door, turns off when you start the motor. . . turns on soon as you shut off the motor and stays on until you get out of the car.

I never got a reply from Intellitec. I believe their light delay is discontinued. The pdf links are broken. I wonder if I could just substitute a Saab relay. I will trot down to the junkyard and see if there are any yellow ones. Or, maybe one from a Rover?

                          Holy thread revival.

                          But a worthy one.
I'm interested in this. Has anyone experimented with the large capacitor? I already have and LED in my dome so that could be an easy route for me.

The old probes use to do this.

I searched for "probe delay" on the Bay and found two Dayton adjustable delay relays.
