  • Aftermarket tachometer for '89 Festiva

Just bought my buddy's 89 carb Festiva. Unfortunately, there's no tachometer, so I'm not precisely certain how much play there is left in the transmission when I shift. I'd love to install one, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions/experience with a decent one they would recommend?

I bought a cheap $30 tach for my festiva. All you have to do is hook up the hot and ground wires, run the light wire to anything that switches on when you turn on your lights, and run the tach wire (usually green) to the negative side of your coil.

Another alternative is to grab a tach cluster out of a junkyard. I have one of those as well. Cost me $18

Which model/year festivas had tachometers? Are there other cars you can swap the tachometers from? Also will changing the gauge cluster cause any damage to the odometer etc.?

you have to switch out the entire guage cluster. here's an how-to article by Wil that will give you more info.

it had pics but they don't work now. it's very easy though and pretty self explanatory as long as you know to reroute the speedo cable.
