I finally called about ordering a right side three point retractable seatbelt for my front passenger seat in AquaMutt. I decided to call Seatbeltplanet because they have a new service called "Seatbeltdoctor." Essentially, they can fix, customize or completely redo your old seatbelts.
The gentleman I talked to today also said that the generic style seatbelts sold by other companies are not always a great fit into the cars. Furthermore, he said his company couldn't guarantee that their replacement units would fit right. Has anyone ever bought and installed an aftermarket three point retractable belt in a Festiva? I'd like to know your results on that.
I have some info coming from this company via email this evening, but right now I'd like to know if anyone here has dealt with this company before?
Here is the link:
Essentially, I'm probably going to be sending my old passenger side front belt to them so they can look at it directly, along with some pictures of the mounting points, etc. The cost is estimated to be around $125. (I want to do this right, so that cost doesn't sound unreasonable to me.)
I know some folks simply swap over to the early manual belts, but since they're over twenty years old at this point, I really think that's a bad idea. The only reason I'm using Muttstiva's driver's belt is because I replaced it with a new Ford unit in 2002 when the original retractor quit retracting. So my LF belt is only ten years old, along with the center latch unit that came with it.
Experiences? Opinions?
