  • What Hood Struts did Cam use on his Festiva?

Anyone know what struts he used? And why he used two? I can't imagine needing 2 for the hood.

I don't know about Cam but I used ones designed for the first generation VW Rabbit.

Yep, Rabbit. and I think he went with two so the hood would stay level and not stress one side too much. One would probably hold it, but because of the location of the mounting points it would probably eventually damage the hood.
        No festiva for me ATM...

I've been running with just one for quite some time with no problems.

Are they hood struts or hatch struts? I'm not familiar with the VWs so I don't know if they use a stick for the hood and struts for the hatch.

I've had this thought in my mind since I saw the mod a few weeks ago...

I think any hood or hatch/trunk strut 'SHOULD' work as long as it's not too weak or too strong and you can find a way to mount it.

So what you are saying is if you find one that works then.... it should work?

Ha just messing with you! This seems like a pretty cool mod for down the road.

i have wanted to do this from the time i saw ian's car at westiva but i cant remember, do i need to drill holes or do they just bolt on to the festiva fender and hood bolts? the kit i found has these little bolts with ball mounts on them... are they the right thread pitch?
